The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization. It is committed to mentoring youth and sponsoring programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans.
The American Legion Adolph Pfister Post 1038 in Valhalla, is strong and growing with 100+ members. We are the largest local American Legion Post. Since 1931 we have received many awards and commendations for helping veterans at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System in Montrose and for supporting community programs and charities. See below for a sample of the work we do and please consider joining us to carry on these traditions that help Veterans and America.
Early each December we host a Food Pantry Drive for VA Montrose at ShopRite Thornwood.
Our last drive alone collected nearly 10,000 pounds of non-perishable food products for veterans in need, plus we provide monthly monetary support to the VA Food Pantry.
The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. This Post belongs to the people it serves and the community in which it thrives. We are over 95 Legionnaires, strong and growing!
